Current position: Provost Postdoctoral Fellow at Johns Hopkins University


Dr. Leann Mclaren is a recent 2024 PhD in political science from Duke University with a certificate in African and African American studies. She is also a Provost Postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University in the political science department. She studies race in American politics, focusing on Black political behavior, social identity, and immigration politics. Her work has been supported by the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF-GRFP),  the American Political Science Association Minority Fellowship Program (APSA-MFP), and the Russell Sage Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Grant (RSF-DRG), among others. Her research within these areas is either published or forthcoming in American Political Science Review, The Journal of Race, Ethnicity, and Politics, and Politics, Groups, and Identities. Leann received her B.A. from the University of Connecticut in political science and history, as well as her M.A. in political science from Duke University.
